Technology & web use

Beth Black has blogged about a study at her university, Ohio State (USA), that forms part of Project Information Literacy. This part of the project concentrates on examining what technologies and websites students use at the "crunch time" when assignments are due and exams coming up. Black, who interviewed 100 students, reports a few preliminary findings: I shouldn't copy all of them so I'll just quote one "Overall, early trends from the total survey sample (n=560, at 10 institutions) indicate that the students were not using the same small collection of web sites. In fact, preliminary findings suggest that college students create highly individualized information spaces that support many kinds of activities, from communication to course work to entertainment when they are using the campus library during crunch time."
